Japan Heritage Mountains
Japan Heritage is a certification system started by the Agency for Cultural Affairs in 2015. Unlike UNSECO World Heritage, which deals with specific cultural assets and the natural environment of a limited region, Japan Heritage deals with “stories” that convey the culture and traditions of Japan through a region’s historic charm, unique characteristics, and so on.
While Japan has a number of certification systems such as national treasures, historic sites, and cultural asset, which emphasize on the conservation of things, Japan Heritage emphasizes on utilizing things.
As of April 2019, 67 stories have been certified as Japan Heritages. Several of these stories deal with mountain climbing related to religious belief, historical sites, and natural scenery.
