Find a Mountain Guide
If you walk with a guide who knows much about Japanese mountains, you can enjoy more. The Japan Mountain Guides Association (JMGA) is a member of the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA). That means JMGA guarantee they are reliable guides even in mountains with severe conditions. Some qualifications are recognized by the prefecture, such as Mountain Guides of Nagano Prefecture. They are specialized in the area.

Yasuyuki Kashu
Hello, everyone! Nice to meet you. I love nature. I love cycling, hiking and climbing.
I have worked in Canada as a log-builder, joined the MTB race in Africa, and traveled to Central America, Southeast Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Everywhere, I've tried to see as much nature as possible. Nature is so different in every country and I find that immensely moving.
I believe that Japanese mountains are one of those places that you must visit at least once. Since Japan consists of small mountainous islands, you can experience many different landscapes almost at once - cities, small villages, flat lands with beautiful rice fields (rice is the foundation of Japanese culture), lush forests, green mountains and rocky mountains.
Nagano is the most mountainous prefecture in Japan and best place to see nature and go hiking and biking. That is why I now live in Nagano, helping world travelers enjoy the nature and culture of Japan.
Come visit Japan and have special experience in Nagano with us.

Takako Iida
Hi, I am Taka, I live in Nozawa Onsen which is famous for Japow = beautiful Japanese powder snow and Onsen (hot springs) in the North of Nagano.
I started my guiding career when I was in New Zealand on a working holiday. I was a trekking guide on the Milford Track which is called “the finest walk in the world” and the Routeburn Track (my favourite).
I have also been a scuba diving guide/whale shark swim guide in Australia, Kayak guide/snowboard instructor in Canada, and a snowboard instructor in the US.
Once I got back to Japan, it was no-brainer for me to get a qualification to guide Oze National Park.
Since then, I have got my mountain guide qualification from JMGA and my avalanche certificate so I have been enjoying guiding through the mountains all around Oze area, Tanigawa Area, Shin-etsu area (near Nozawa Onsen area), and Kamikoshi area. I have worked as a ski patroller at Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort for seven seasons.
I also founded the village walking tour a few years ago, which I currently run along with snowshoe tours in Nozawa Onsen. Both explore the local beauty, history and nature.
As you can tell I like being in nature and sharing the local knowledge of flora and fauna.
Get in touch if you would like to join me!!
